WoW Classic 2024 roadmap covers upcoming releases for Cataclysm Classic and Season of Discovery

The World of Warcraft team shared a 2024 content roadmap that covered everything happening in WoW in the upcoming year. But that roadmap wasn’t all about Dragonflight and The War Within, though: the WoW team also shared a 2024 roadmap for World of Warcraft Classic including releases for Classic Hardcore, Season of Discovery, and Cataclysm Classic. In 2023, Blizzard established a consistent release cycle by delivering patches every 8-9 weeks in retail WoW and that pattern looks like it’ll continue in 2024. WoW Classic is a bit different because it took longer to establish a rhythm at the start of Classic, but Wrath of the Lich King Classic settled into a 3 month cadence (give or take a week or two) for content rollouts.

Based on how the schedule is structured in 2024, all of the Classic content from Season of Discovery to Cataclysm Classic will follow a similar cycle:

• January 2024: Wrath of the Lich King Classic’s last raid, the Ruby Sanctum, released on January 11, 2024 as part of the final Wrath Classic phase.
• February 2024: WoW Classic Season of Discovery’s second phase released February 8, 2024 raising the level cap to 40. The latest phase will feature new runes for Belt and Boots, the Gnomeregan level-up raid, and the Blood Moon PVP event.
• February 2024: The WoW team announced Classic Hardcore will get the additional Self-Found Mode difficulty modifier on February 29, 2024.
• April 2024: Season of Discovery’s third phase launched on April 4, 2024. This phase raises the level cap to 50, gives new runes for one of the remaining armor slots, and has the third level-up raid. Blizzard’s previously teased Scarlet Monastery as a level-up raid location and that could fit well into this level range.
• April 2024: Cataclysm Classic’s Shattering of Azeroth pre-patch event launches April 30, 2024. The pre-patch will allow Goblins and Worgen as playable races and bring some of the changes Blizzard touched up at BlizzCon 2023. I imagine this is also the time the Wrath Classic servers will transition to Cataclysm Classic servers.
• May 2024: Cataclysm Classic officially releases worldwide on May 20, 2024 at 3PM pacific time. Once Cataclysm Classic launches, the progression from Wrath Classic servers will be complete and there will only be Classic Era and Cataclysm Classic servers.
• Summer 2024: Season of Discovery’s final phase is on deck for the middle of Summer 2024. When it does arrive, the level cap will raise to 60, players will have access to the final slate of runes and abilities. The phrase “End Game Activities” jumps out as a change-up from “New Raid” in the previous Season of Discovery marker, meaning players might be in store for more than just a raid.
• July 2024: Cataclysm Classic’s second phase, Rise of the Zandalari, is scheduled for sometime in July 2024. Given the release structure, it’ll probably be mid-late July 2024.
• October 2024: Rage of the Firelands equates to Cataclysm Classic’s third phase and it will release in October 2024, probably towards the early part of the month.
• Fall 2024: Season of Discovery’s last 2024 update deals with the vague “End Game Content Updates” marker on the map. When Season of Discovery was originally announced at BlizzCon 2023, the WoW Classic team said they wanted to utilize and flesh out areas, zones, and quests that were lacking in Vanilla WoW and we could see those changes come to light in this update.
• January 2025: Hour of Twilight, Cataclysm Classic’s third phase, isn’t on the 2024 roadmap but thanks to one of WoW’s other socials detailing the release cadence of Cataclysm Classic, we can expect in the new year.

Both roadmaps for WoW and WoW Classic are packed to the brim, providing players with a variety of new and renewed options to choose from throughout 2024!
