Blizzard Watch Weekly: Still trapped on cursed snake island, but hopefully not for long

While we’re continuing our adventures on cursed snake island (otherwise known as the Coiled Isle), at least we have some Tortollan friends. And we have a look at the future beyond cursed snake island, as we got a peek at WoW patch 12.1.5 and BlizzCon this weekend will tell us what’s coming after that. Which hopefully won’t involve snakes.

But while we wait for the big news that’s sure to arrive in a few days, here’s what’s been happening in the world of Blizzard games, and what’s coming up this week.

What happened last week?

  • BlizzCon is this weekend! The BlizzCon schedule was released last week, and here’s how to watch the show from home. While you watch, there will be lots of Twitch Drops to earn, so there are plenty of rewards to pick up while you do.
  • Though we’re still a way out from launch, WoW patch 12.1.5 has been announced and it’s packed with new content, including Labyrinths, a sort of mega-Delve. It’s an odd announcement, coming as it does a week before BlizzCon, but I’m still excited. (As long as the first Delve isn’t full of snakes.)
  • The Venomous Abyss Race to World First is now over, and Team Liquid has emerged victorious for the fifth race in a row, with Echo following with a kill a half hour later. We have a rundown of the second week of the race and another about Liquid’s victory in the Ula’tek fight.
  • The September WoW Trading Post is here with plenty of new rewards (including several variants of a cute new chameleon mount). But if none of this month’s rewards thrill you, you can also find vendors selling older items so there’s plenty to spend your tendies on this month.
  • Out of all of the additions to Player Housing in the last patch, we’re most excited about the ability to move the entrance of our homes… but there are some tricks to how this works, so we put together a guide.
  • This week’s Hearthstone Tavern Brawl is all about the life-changing power of magic in The Power of Magic Brawl. Pick a class, get a deck, and go off to fight Kael’thas. Every deck has ten copies of Magic of Azeroth, a spell that casts when drawn that lets you discover a free spell. Better pick the biggest, baddest spell you can get.

Other things we’re playing, watching, and more

We’re taking some time away from the spooky adventures in indie game Blake Manor to check out the Capy Castaway demo, and you guys it is the cutest thing I have ever had the joy of experiencing. Your capybara can wear anything it wants as a hat and is friends with a crow who rides on his head who can also pick him up and fly around. The game is a miracle of happiness. (We’ll still be back with more Blake Manor soon.) Catch us streaming indie games live Thursday at 8pm eastern (amd follow us on Twitch to get notifications), and watch Liz, Liz, and Mitch checking out Capy Castaway right here:

This week’s freebie from the Epic Games Store is Alone With You, a tearjerker about escaping a doomed space colony… and things don’t get better from there. It’s free to download through Thursday.

One of the non-Blizzard games we’re excited about is Exodus, a sci-fi shooter made by former Mass Effect developers in which you may be able to date an awakened octopus. (Maybe. No one’s said one way or the other so I’m going to assume yes.) It just got a release date in April, and I am looking forward to it.

That’s all for this week. Thanks for reading, and I’ll be back next week with another weekly news recap!
