While we've been through the pre-expansion doldrums many times before, but the last few months of Dragonflight saw some new experiments hit the live servers.

Well, we're in that time of World of Warcraft's lifecycle again.

The World of Warcraft Plunderstorm is now live, bringing an entirely new playstyle — a battle royale arena — a slew of cosmetic rewards for your retail WoW characters (and two for you Classic players).

It's probably unfair to say Plunderstorm is a ripoff of Fortnite -- unfair to Fortnite, that is.

I'm not sure anyone predicted "Warcraft Battle Royale with spells" when patch 10.2.6 mysteriously appeared as a simple pirate flag on the 2024 road map, but that's pretty much what Plunderstorm is.

It's baaaaackkkkkkk! Plunderstorm has returned to WoW, a unique 60-player battle royale style game in which only one player will be left standing.

Plunderstorm's Battle Royale action and streamlined UI is a great opportunity to try out World of Warcraft with controller support if you're up to the experiment.

World of Warcraft patch 10.2.6 has arrived, and blown in on an ill wind is its piratical surprise -- the Plunderstorm!

Update: The new 2025 edition of Plunderstorm has an all new set of rewards to earn, which you can buy directly with plunder rather than progressing through a Renown track.
