Patch 8.3 has us invading Ny’alotha the Waking City in a new 12 boss raid

We knew there would be something big when patch 8.3 dropped, and there is — the patch boasts Old God Assaults, Horrific Visions of N’Zoth, and more. But one of the biggest things coming in the patch is Ny’alotha, the Waking City. It’s the seat of power for the ascendant Old God N’Zoth himself and a 12-boss raid that we’re going to have to clear if we want to save the world once and for all from the threat of an Old God who isn’t bound or chained or contained in any way. Ion “Watcher” Hazzikostas spilled the beans in this Developer Content Update, previewing what’s coming in patch 8.3, and it’s a doozy.

We’ve fought Old Gods before, yes — but not like this.

C’Thun was bound in Ahn’Qiraj and we really only fought one eye and a few mouth parts and tentacles. Likewise with Yogg-Saron was still contained in the ancient prison the Titans had constructed for him. But thanks to Queen Azshara, N’Zoth is completely free, and we’re going to have to fight all of his minions. Expect a greatest hits of Old God servants — insectoid creatures similar to the Aqir, Qiraji, and Mantid, twisted tentacle faced N’raqi aberrations, cultists who have given themselves over to corruption, Mitch — before you finally reach the Old God itself.

We still don’t know what awaits us in Ny’alotha

But let us be clear — all Ion has told us is that the raid exists and that N’Zoth is at the end. We don’t know any of the other 11 bosses yet or what we’ll be expected to do to overcome them. But Ion makes it clear that Ny’alotha is the heart of the military power of the Old God who is currently attacking all across Azeroth, and the images in the video show us Twilight Dragons (or at least Dragons that resemble them), Void Lords, robed cultists, tentacle-faced N’raqi, and more. The specific mention made of insectoid enemies makes Manti, Nerubians, or Qiraji seem almost a certainty as well.

Considering we know there are twelve bosses including N’Zoth to face in Ny’alotha, we can probably expect bosses from some or all of these categories and then some by the time we get finished with the raid. Ion also mentioned that we’re going to need the help of every ally we’ve made throughout this entire campaign, so it’s likely that Magni, Wrathion, MOTHER, Ebonhorn, and others will play a role in confronting N’Zoth. No word on what, if anything, Azshara will do in this raid — the last time we saw her, N’Zoth had dragged her out of his prison at the end of the Eternal Palace raid and we really don’t know what shape she’s in or what he might be doing to her.

Still, it definitely looks like a graphically stunning raid from the images we see in the Developer Update, so I’m excited. We’ve been waiting for Ny’alotha since the end of Siege of Orgrimmar, it’ll be a thrill to see it for ourselves at last.
