We finally know exactly what level your character will be in Shadowlands

So, one of the big questions people have asked about the leveling squish since it was announced for Shadowlands is simply what level will I be when the expansion arrives? While it’s easy for certain characters — if you’re level 120 now, you’ll be level 50 once the pre-patch for the upcoming expansion comes out — it’s not that easy for your level 73 Druid.

At long last, however, Blizzard has finally released a handy round up post of what will happen once the pre-patch drops, including Battle for Azeroth level to Shadowlands level conversions.

What are they, you ask? Well, here we go:

  • Level 120 becomes level 50
  • Level 118 – 119 becomes level 49
  • Level 116 – 117 becomes level 48
  • Level 114 – 115 becomes level 47
  • Level 112 – 113 becomes level 46
  • Level 110 – 111 becomes level 45
  • Level 108 – 109 becomes level 44
  • Level 106 – 106 becomes level 43
  • Level 104 – 105 becomes level 42
  • Level 102 – 103 becomes level 41
  • Level 100 – 101 becomes level 40
  • Level 98 – 88 becomes level 39
  • Level 96 -97 becomes level 38
  • Level 94 – 95 becomes level 37
  • Level 92 – 93 becomes level 36
  • Level 90 – 91 becomes level 35
  • Level 88 – 89 becomes level 34
  • Level 86 – 87 becomes level 33
  • Level 84 – 85 becomes level 32
  • Level 82 – 83 to Level 31
  • Level 80 – 81 becomes level 30
  • Level 76 – 79 becomes level 29
  • Level 72 – 75 becomes level 28
  • Level 68 – 71 becomes level
  • Level 64 – 67 becomes level 26
  • Level 60 – 63 becomes level 25
  • Level 57 – 59 becomes level 24
  • Level 54 – 56 becomes level 23
  • Level 51 – 53 becomes level 22
  • Level 48 – 50 becomes level 21
  • Level 45 – 47 becomes level 20
  • Level 43 – 44 becomes level 19
  • Level 41 – 42 becomes level 18
  • Level 39 – 40 becomes level 17
  • Level 37 – 38 becomes level 16
  • Level 35 – 36 becomes level 15
  • Level 32 – 34 becomes level 14
  • Level 29 – 30 becomes level 13
  • Level 26 – 28 becomes level 12
  • Level 23 – 25 becomes level 11
  • Level 20 – 22 becomes level 10
  • Level 18 – 19 becomes level 9
  • Level 16 – 17 becomes level 8
  • Level 14 – 15 becomes level 7
  • Level 12 – 13 becomes level 6
  • Level 10 – 11 becomes level 5
  • Level 8 – 9 becomes level 4
  • Level 5 – 7 becomes level 3
  • Level 2 – 4 becomes level 2

And amazingly, level 1 equates to level 1. I know, I was surprised too.

As you might expect, Character Boosts will be granting different levels as well., The current level 120 Character Boost will instead provide a level 50 boost and the level 110 Character Boost will instead provide a boost to level 48 — which is actually somewhat better than the level 45 we might have expected since level 110 equates to level 45 on the conversion chart. Both of these changes will take place after the Shadowlands pre-expansion patch.

All of the other pre-expansion changes will go live along with the level squish. The character appearance changes will be live and as a result, paid character customization options will be retired as of the pre-expansion. Allied Races will no longer require Exalted reputation, Exile’s Reach will be added to the game alongside the Timewalking system that lets you level 10 to 50 in any World of Warcraft expansion to date, and the Mentoring system for experienced players to help new players as they level.

What we still don’t know is when this will be happening. I’m a little surprised that in this very comprehensive post Blizzard didn’t let us know when, exactly, we could expect Battle for Azeroth to end. Since I don’t expect them to drop it tomorrow without more direct warning, my current guess is next week, September 29.

We’ll see when we get there. But at least we finally know what level we’ll be once it does.
