WRUP: Team Blizzard Watch is torn apart over ice cream flavors

It’s another weekend, but unlike most other WRUPs, this one is special — because it’s a Splatfest WRUP! Yes, I’ve once again foisted my obsession (and one of Splatoon’s most fun features) upon the Blizzard Watch staff.

But I’m getting ahead of myself; this is WRUP — What aRe yoU Playing? — where we like to talk about all the fun and exciting stuff we’re doing over the weekend. In addition to that, we’re also going to be fighting over ice cream flavors: Vanilla, strawberry, or mint chip?

So without further ado, let’s dive in. Liz Harper leads us off.

  • Critical Role
  • World of Warcraft
  • Diablo 4

A lot of my free time has been going into packing up for a move, though I have been multitasking and catching up with Critical Role in the background. I’ll probably get in some Diablo 4 this weekend, and I’d like to run the new Dawn of the Infinite megadungeon, but that’s a question of whether I have time when everyone else has time.

  • Pathfinder 2e

Managed level 84 by the skin of my teeth, am now torn between trying to zerg to 100 or just relax until the Season comes out and do it all on my Season character. Trying to get one of each lifepath in Cyberpunk 2077 to level 50 in time for Phantom Liberty. Doing a lot of Pathfinder reading to get ideas for the Pathfinder Rise of the Runelords game for Blizzard Watch.

  • Salt 2
  • Overwatch 2
  • Oxenfree 2
  • Hearthstone Battlegrounds (2?)

Happy 2,023th birthday, Mitch! I’m firmly on team Mint Chocolate, because I enjoy feeling as though I’ve just brushed my teeth.

This weekend I’m going to be playing a decent amount of Overwatch 2, because I’m invested in the Questwatch storyline, and I always feel like events are much smoother to complete the earlier you do them. I’m also excited to play some Hearthstone Battlegrounds, since Quests was my favorite meta.

Outside of Blizzard, I’m excited about the launch of Oxenfree 2, since the first had a really stellar shifting narrative, so adding on to that and seeing where they go with it will be a lot of fun. I’m also playing Salt 2, which is a relatively chill seafaring exploration and survival game. It’s in early release (and frankly it feels like it’s in early release) but island hopping on my boat and hitting pirates with a big hammer is a good time. It feels like a slightly less zany Sea of Thieves without always online or multiplayer or PVP, which is exactly where I want to be.

Happy birthday, Mitch! May you have joy and peace.

My weekend proper doesn’t start until Monday, but after discovering “been a while” is more accurately expressed as “years,” I’m determined to hook up my Oculus Rift and play some VR games. Besides that, I’ll be trying to get outdoors for a while and to focus enough to start catching up on writing.

Oh, and Team Strawberry!

  • Cities: Skylines
  • Diablo 4

Mint chocolate ice cream. I always have mint chocolate ice cream sandwiches in my freezer.

With Cities: Skylines 2 on the way, I have begun working on my final city in the original game. I decided to do it as vanilla as possible and deleted all of my add ons except the traffic ones. Time to grow my small town to my last metropolis.

I also will get a little Diablo 4 in to see if I missed anything before season 1 starts.

  • Diablo 4
  • Dragonflight
  • DnD Prep

Happy birthday to our favorite Child of the Old Gods, Mitch!

Mint Chocolate Chip is the only choice.

This weekend I’m going to pick Diablo 4 back up to try and get some outstanding stuff done before Season 1 drops. I’ve also been doing the Little Scales Daycare quests in Dragonflight  each day so I’ll be doing that in between Diablo and DnD prep. Speaking of, 13 grueling, shenanigan-filled months after beginning a simple fetch quest, my DnD group is nearing the end of our homebrew campaign. I’ve had the bones of the last act in place for a while now but I’ll need to flesh out the finer details before we meet tomorrow night. I’m so incredibly excited to see how they deal with the ending.

  • Diablo 4
  • D&D (twice in one day!)
  • Baseball!
  • World of Warcraft?

Happy birthday, Mitch; may the Old Gods’ bless you with their tentacle-y embrace, or whatever you void types are into.

Honestly as much as I like mint chocolate chip I’m gonna have to hop on Team Vanilla here. It gets a bad rap as a synonym for plain but vanilla is a great flavor on its own! Plus goes well with most toppings, if you’re a topping person (which I definitely am).

I’ve gotten my Druid into the 80s in D4 and I intend to keep plugging away at that tonight; I don’t know if I’m going to hit 100 or beat the capstone boss before season 1 hits, but I’m gonna try. Still contemplating what I want to play for Season 1; everyone in my guild, it feels like, has been a Necromancer for this opening prologue period and I gotta admit it looks cool, but Sorcerers seem…. invincible?? Which is tempting. (Assuming they don’t get colossally nerfed on that front going into S1, anyway.)

Meanwhile in WoW, I’d like to try to get into either some Mythic+ or the new megadungeon tonight because I’m really still trying to feel my way around Augmentation as a spec. It’s exactly what I wanted it to be, except it is really hard to tell when I’m doing a good job except after the raid is already over. Hoping some of those out-of-game log hooks find their way to addons someday.

But I don’t know if that’s gonna happen because Saturday I’m going to a Reds game (they’re on fire!) and Sunday I have not one but two D&D games, almost literally back to back (the one I DM in is 1 PM-6 PM, the one I play in is 7 PM-9 PM). My brain is going to be so toasted by Sunday evening.

#TeamVanilla

I’m watching Dark, a German show on Netflix that had been recommended to me countless times but I’m only finally getting to. It’s a thriller about time travel, with an ensemble cast centered around four families over multiple generations. I won’t say more for the risk of spoiling it, but suffice to say, I’m really enjoying it; the recommendations were right.

It reminds me of Lost, except it only spans three seasons (I’m currently watching the second one) — and it definitely feels like, unlike that show, this one had the whole story fully planned from the beginning, which makes a huge difference in how cohesive the plot feels.

  • World of Warcraft
  • Project PH
  • Writing

Happy Birthday, Mitch! I will celebrate with MY favorite of the trio — Mint Chocolate.

Diablo 4 Season 1 comes next week and you better believe I’ll be hopping on that train. I already have all my prereqs done (campaign completed, map and Altars unlocked). I’d be delighted to finish my remaining Renown 5 ranks and unlock WT4 over the weekend.

I also have some adorable whelps to aid in World of Warcraft — do not care about anything else in this patch. Just the whelps. The adorable whelps who love cheese and crackers as much as I do.

PLUS, I am starting a super sekrit new project (heretofore referred to as Project PH, or just PH). Maaaaaybe I’ll keep everyone posted in the WRUP? >_>

FINALLY, I need to appease the editors by writing more this weekend (note: they did not tell me to write this weekend, I am doing so because that is when free time exists). I’ll see you all in the word mines. <3 Get ready for Season 1!

  • Tears of the Kingdom
  • Diablo 4
  • Splatoon 3
  • Board games?
  • Night out?

Tonight, we have mystery reservations and what I can only assume will be a night spent bar-hopping to celebrate nothing at all.Tomorrow, it’s also a mystery — but it’s been heavily hinted that I shouldn’t make plans, so I’m expecting some sort of board-game night. Sunday? Keeping it chill and playing through D4, which we’re still way behind on and haven’t beaten. Hopefully that doesn’t mean anything for Season 1 next week…

And, of course, I have to back Shiver. #TeamVanilla all the way this weekend. (Oh, and thank you all for the lovely birthday wishes 💜🦑)

That’s Team Blizzard Watch for this weekend! I hope you all have a lovely weekend yourselves, and if you have a moment, why not let us know: What aRe yoU Playing?
