WRUP: We celebrate two years of WRUP with- ah, who am I kidding? Everyone is playing Baldur’s Gate 3 this weekend

Hello and welcome to another weekend! This weekend, however, is a little more special than most. Why? Because it marks two years since WRUP gloriously returned to life!

WRUP — What aRe yoU Playing? — is all about celebrating games, entertainment, and the things we enjoy in life. So whether you’re new here or you’ve been joining along since the beginning(s), thank you!

Now, let’s dive into what makes WRUP what it is: Us talking about what we’re playing (and doing) this weekend! Liz Harper kicks us off.

Elizabeth Harper

  • Diablo 4
  • Good Omens season 2
  • So much housework :(

I’m way behind on Diablo 4 Season 1, and intend to spend some time catching up this weekend. I’m playing another necromancer, but whenever I log on I think about how fun my eternal realm necromancer is, already decked out in interesting legendaries and needing to finish perfecting a build. The new necromancer isn’t there yet, so it feels less interesting, though the malignant hearts add a new twist to play with. Still, even though I’m used to the Diablo season structure it’s been discouraging. So I need to put in some time to get over that discouragement and into the game.

Then there’s Good Omens season 2, which came out least week. I haven’t had a chance to watch a single episode yet, and kind of wanted to rewatch season 1 first because it’s been a while. But that turns into a good chunk of time. I’ll get through at least some of it.

I’m also very, very partially moved into a new house and there is just so much to do. Which really explains why I’m behind on everything else.

  • WoW Classic
  • Dragonflight patch 10.1.7 PTR
  • Baldur’s Gate

I’ve been hitting Diablo 4 season 1 pretty hard the last few weeks so this weekend I’m going to mix it up with Baldur’s Gate 3. I was curious about this game the entire time it was in “Early Access” but I wanted to wait until full release to make a decision. The videos I’ve seen look awesome and at the time of writing the download is 9% complete, so by the time this goes live it’ll be ready to go.

I’m also not one for Hardcore versions of anything anymore because I know how tilted I can get but I’m curious about trying out WoW Classic’s Hardcore and to get my fix, I’ve been playing WoW Classic. I’m sure I’ll do the rotation of Classic then Baldur’s Gate 3 then back to Classic…you get it. I also plan on getting in to Dragonflight’s patch 10.1.7 PTR to see what’s coming and find something to write about.

  • D&D
  • And then probably prep for the next session or two
  • Maybe some Diablo 4

Tomorrow’s a fairly significant part in our campaign; besides getting a major quest that’ll occupy them for a while, the structure of the campaign’s about to transition to a sandbox style. While I really like giving my players freedom to roam, the downside is that I can’t really anticipate where they’ll go perfectly so I’ve got to be prepared for a lot more than usual. Whoof.

In between prep, play, and more prep, I’ll probably find some time to keep pushing my rogue in Diablo 4. I’ve reached a point where I’m about 3/4 of the way done with the season journey, but I haven’t even reached level 60 yet. Whoof.

  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Diablo 4
  • Baldur’s Gate 3

Still working on getting my playthroughs of Cyberpunk ready for phantom liberty of this coming month after August and playing Diablo 4 and hopefully I will be done installing BG3 at some point

  • Anniversary with axes and alcohol
  • Cosplay at a beach
  • Elden Ring?
  • Diablo 4?
  • WoW?

That’s right, y’all, in a completely (genuinely) unintentional happenstance, WRUP’s anniversary falls very close to my own anniversary. The GF and I started dating four years ago as of tomorrow/Friday/the day this goes live, so to celebrate this time around, we’re going to do what we did four years ago: Throw axes and get drunk drink responsibly. (Our “big” anniversary plans aren’t until next month when we visit the Smokies.) Unless I throw out my back between the time of writing and time of publication.

Saturday it’s our first time going to a certain cosplay event at a beach, so we’ll be doing our best Gundham Tanaka and Sonia Nevermind beachwear looks. I’m looking forward to it quite a bit, as are my newly acquired Dark Devas of Destruction! (…Danganronpa is wild, y’all.)

Sunday? Sunday is probably relaxing because, dang, the previous two days are gonna be busy. If we’re not working through Act 4 (wooooo) of Diablo 4, we’ll be Elden Ring/WoW-ing it up. I passed KSH recently, but I’m trying to see just how high I can push my rating this season. So far, I’m up to 2623, which is just wild to me.

  • HSBG
  • Retro Bowl
  • Star Wars Battlefront
  • Author Elevate

I’m taking a break from SNAP this weekend. I think I experienced what people call “tilting” as I burned myself out trying (and failing) to make Infinite.

HSBG
I’m enjoying the season of HSBGs. Mechs and Dragons are my favorite tribe, but I’m going to make an Elemental build work at some point.

Retro Bowl
With the football season officially starting back up last night, I want to get back into the best mobile football game I’ve played. Retro Bowl has a great retro feel, fun mechanics, and a fair monetization strategy.

Star Wars Battlefront
SW: Battlefront is a low stress game for me. I play co-op and usually come in fourth place, but nobody seems to care. I can just blast away with all my favorite Star Wars characters.

Lastly, I’m going to be interviewed in the Author Elevate podcast talking about my book (and Star Wars). The podcast should be up by the time you see this.

  • Celebrating 100* years of life
  • Season

That’s right, I turn 100* years old this weekend. So I’m probably not be going to playing too many video games and instead will be celebrating my centennial* in style.

When not ruminating on my century* of life I’m still trying to finish Season so I hope to get that done.

*If we used a Base 7 numbering system

  • Baldur’s Gate 3

I was trying to think of something witty to say, but my plans are to play Baldur’s Gate 3. I even maxed out the Diablo 4 season pass just so I would have my schedule clear for this long awaited game.

  • Hearthstone
  • Diablo 4
  • Spy x Family
  • Watching Dark… sorta

On the gaming front, my time is being dominated by Hearthstone, with the fresh release of the Titans expansion (which has been a ton of fun) and Diablo 4 on the side. I’ve definitely slowed down on D4 when compared to how much I was playing pre-season, but I’m still making enough progress that I’ve unlocked World Tier 3 a few days ago.

I’m still watching Spy x Family, and I’ve kind of started a rewatch of Dark… in a sense. It’s such a complex show with so many mysteries and theories that I’ve been watching a group of youtubers I like watching the series for the first time, and discussing it episode by episode. It allows me to recap the story, seeing how certain connections were already there all the way from the start, as well as have fun seeing what they get right and what they get wrong in their predictions of just what the heck is going on.

  • Classic movie night (Clue, and Rosencrantz & Gildernstern are Dead)
  • An all day super secret 50th birthday party for a friend
  • Diablo seasonal progression
  • ST:SNW musical episode and Harley Quinn catch up
  • Work commitments

At our monthly poker game last month it came out that several of our regular players have never seen the movie Clue, so we will be hosting a movie night at our place on Saturday, Rosencrantz & Gildenstern came up as a suggestion for the second part of a double feature as there were several Shakespeare fans in the group who hadn’t seen it. Both movies are a genuine delight.

Sunday we’re heading off relatively early for a day of TTRPGs at a game cafe being run for a friends 50th, and then we all head off for a viking feast at a local restaurant that specialises in that kind of thing.

Around that I hope to clear a some of my TV backlog and get some Diablo 4 Seasonal progression done. And somewhere I have to squeeze in some prep for a panel I’m chairing next week on Work/Life Balance — which is ironic in it’s own special way.

That’s us for this weekend! Thanks again for being awesome, and if you have a spare moment, why not tell us: What aRe yoU Playing?
