It’s almost Cataclysm time! Which content will you continue to play: WoW Classic seasons or WoW Classic expansions?

In the last two weeks, World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery just launched its third phase and Wrath Classic received the first of two Cataclysm Classic pre-patch events but these two releases are the calm before the storm, so to speak. The Classic servers will clash more directly in a few months when Cataclysm Classic and Season of Discovery Phase 4 both launch in the same summer window. So, I’m curious which content everyone is leaning towards, Classic seasonal content or the Cataclysm Classic (and any expansion beyond) content?

Lots of players feel strongly (in both directions) about the upcoming overhaul coming with Cataclysm Classic, and whether going in this direction defeats the purpose of Classic. In the same vein, Blizzard has changed up so many things in Classic Azeroth during Season of Discovery that it really isn’t the same thing as Classic Era. But the experimental “what if we did this instead?” nature of the season maintains the sense of mystery and invokes a desire to explore that the other Classic expansions made me feel. Additionally, Season of Discovery has the benefit of pulling gameplay ideas and activities from other WoW expansions but I feel like the Blizzard team did a good job of capturing that Classic feeling and aesthetic in the Season of Discovery gameplay without it feeling too familiar.

I’ve said before I really enjoyed Classic because I didn’t play the original releases of WoW through the Cataclysm expansion, so getting a chance to experience Azeroth at a certain point in time was the main selling point for me. Now that Classic Azeroth is turning into what I know from retail, it makes me slightly less excited to pick up Cataclysm Classic. I’ll still play it, don’t get me wrong, but it might take a back seat to Season of Discovery in the beginning.

Still, I’d like to know how you’ve been feeling about Season of Discovery and the upcoming arrival of Cataclysm Classic, and which one you think you’ll play more of!
