What can we expect for the future of World of Warcraft Classic progression servers?

Throughout BlizzCon 2026, we received plenty of information and news about the huge reveal of World of Warcraft: Forever, the roadmap for the rest World of Warcraft: Midnight, and even teasers for The Last Titan and Wrath of the Lich King Remix. Noticeably missing from the BlizzCon stage and schedule was anything related to the future of World of Warcraft Classic. 

The largely expected Classic news at BlizzCon was that Warlords of Draenor Classic coming in the near future, especially since Mists of Pandaria Classic launched its last phase on June 2. While, The Burning Crusade Classic anniversary is still in the middle of its release cycle and will have phase updates through 2026, there’s nothing that we know about for 2027 and the logical next step would have been moving forward into Wrath of the Lich King Classic anniversary. Neither of those things happened and now that BlizzCon has wrapped up, we’re left wondering what is going to happen with Mists of Pandaria Classic and The Burning Crusade Classic anniversary realms.

That doesn’t mean that nothing will happen, though. Blizzard is hosting a World of Warcraft Q&A on their Twitch and YouTube channels scheduled for September 17 at 10am pacific time (1pm eastern), starting with retail WoW and then moving on to WoW Forever at 10:30am pacific. Since WoW Forever’s announcement, questions about the future of Classic progression realms have been asked repeatedly by players, this is probably the place where we’ll hear something about the teams plans for Classic overall alongside Forever.

I don’t think this marks the end of Classic Era realms and Season of Discovery, I’m sure those will stay up and active for a long time. But I’ve long thought that moving Classic beyond Cataclysm was a mistake but because it was so popular, and there was no alternative, it made sense to continue moving through expansions as Classic releases. WoW Forever is that alternative now and it could be a stepping off point for Mists of Pandara Classic. Unfortunately, the same can be said for The Burning Crusade Classic anniversary realms. I would have liked to see anniversary realms stop after Wrath of the Lich King Classic because I think that keeping the initial expansion trilogy available would be well-received by everyone, that would mean three instances of Northrend-related content in 2027 if you factor in Wrath of the Lich King Remix and The Last Titan. 

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens, hopefully the Q&A sheds some light on what we can expect for Classic.
