Hearthstone Battlegrounds

Hearthstone esports is undergoing some major changes in 2022, and among them is one that definitely caught us by surprise: in addition to their typical Constructed decks events slate, Battlegrounds mode will get its own set of official competitive events as well.

It's been almost a month since Hearthstone Battlegrounds received a major new balancing element aimed at making the game more fair: the Hero armor system, where heroes who have what are considered to be "weaker" hero powers start the game with a certain amount of extra armor to compensate for that power discrepancy.

The Fractured in Alterac Valley expansion is almost here, but the festivities have already begun.

Hearthstone's Armor system for Battlegrounds, which had been introduced in patch 21.8, and then removed once Buddies were introduced, is making its return on patch 22.6.

Even though I'm a huge Hearthstone enthusiast, and looking forward to play its upcoming new game mode, Mercenaries, I feel like there are legitimate (and dire) concerns about one key aspect of that game mode: the monetization.
