This month’s Splatfest was a special one — it was the one-year anniversary Splatfest! As such, Nintendo decided to have squids face off against the game’s newest playable characters: octopuses. When I say “newest playable,” I mean you normally need to have the Octo Expansion to play as an octoling. For the Splatfest, however, anyone on the side of octopuses got to play as one!

Given looks are everything in life, I went with the side of the octopuses. Their hairstyles are just so much cooler. Sadly, despite being the more popular side, squids won the overall contest thanks to actual wins. Ah well, it was a super cool and fun Splatfest — and I haven’t even mentioned the Shifty Station this time around (it was so good, you guys).

But enough of that. Let’s Queue.

Man, I really love how wonky the beta can get. I don’t know what this player did to make the Brutosaur mount so giant, but I appreciate it. But giant mounts are probably the last things on your mind right now — because it’s patch day!

At the time of this writing, I have no idea if the servers are up already or if we’ll be facing extended maintenance. Whatever the case, here’s a The Queue to hold you over!

I’ve been listening to a random mix of the Punk Goes Pop albums because they take me back to teenage Mitch, pop-punk music, and crowds of goths at the Warped Tour. But something bothers me about the title… Yes, punk (or, “punk”) bands are covering pop songs, but the songs themselves are punk style. If it were punk bands doing pop versions of pop songs, or if it were punk songs made to sound pop-y, I could see the title making sense. Right now, though? It doesn’t make enough sense if you really think about it.

…But then, millennials literally screaming Taylor Swift songs is probably not meant to be thought about. Anyhow, here’s The Queue.

I’ve been playing a lot of Fortnite lately, and outside of the general “Flavor of the Month” hype, I’m actually really enjoying the way it expands its universe. Recently, after TVs in the game had a mysterious countdown, a rocket launched into the sky in a one-time only event. After what ended up being more than just a rocket launch, an inter-dimensional (?) crack opened in the sky, and it’s been slowly expanding over the past few days, with weird anomalies appearing all over the map.

One player made a seriously amazing “cinematic” video of the event that’s, in my opinion, worth checking out even if you don’t really play. It’s a cool look at how non-WoW games can use events to tell a story and expand their world. Frankly, taking part in the event itself and trying to figure out what it all means is giving me pre-datamining WoW vibes — and damn if that isn’t a feeling I’ve missed.

Anyhow, enough Fortnite. How about we sit down for a Queue?
