Assassins Creed Valhalla

I'm sad to say that, after playing it a lot, I'm fairly "meh" about Assassin's Creed Valhalla's upcoming DLC, Dawn of Ragnarok.

This is something I don't think I've ever even heard of a game doing -- Ubisoft Quebec announced via Twitter that they're releasing two new Assassin's Creed DLC simultaneously, with the announcement happening the day before the DLC drop.

Yes, technically Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a game about being a Viking and stabbing lots of people, but it's also secretly about gathering lots and lots of cute animals to roam around your settlement.

Ah, expansion day in World of Warcraft!

Just for a sense of the scale of Ubisoft's latest Assassin's Creed game, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, I am just now probably at the 1/3rd mark.

Look, I’m on record as absolutely loving Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and it’s still absolutely one of my favorite games of the past ten years. But time marches onward, and I’m now a Viking dual wielding a Dane Axe and a Doppelhander, so let’s all get on board with the new hotness, shall we? I think we shall. While everyone in Azeroth is dealing with being trolled by zombies 24/7 I’ll be romancing everyone in East Anglia.

This is me saying that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and lady Eivor have won my heart, by being utterly unafraid to mix shocking violence, completely ludicrous side quests, deliberately upending a lot of tropes, and otherwise doing a great job of playing around with a kind of moral ambiguity I’ve not seen in a long time. This is one of the best RPG’s I’ve ever played.
