BlizzCon 2016 eSports Championships prize pool at $2.75 million
Hot on the heels of this year’s announcement of the BlizzCon 2016 dates earlier today, Blizzard has just revealed the prize pools for the championship titles of all of their eSports seasons that culminate at this year’s event. The combined cash payout to the participating teams adds up to a whopping $2.75 million.
The World of Warcraft Arena Championship has the smallest prize pool at $250,000. Hearthstone will have a much larger prize pool at $1,000,000 to be spread among 16 teams. Gameplay will be the new Standard Mode that is being introduced with the upcoming Whispers of the Old Gods expansion later this month.
Heroes of the Storm will also boast a $1,000,000 prize pool. With seven more months between now and the finals, there’s plenty of time for the meta to change with at least a half dozen more heroes to be introduced to the game between now and them, including the incredibly agile Tracer. Finally, the StarCraft II Global finals boasts a $500,000 pool and has the new Legacy of the Void changes to grapple with that present new challenges for this season’s veterans.
It remains to be seen which matches are played the week before BlizzCon and which ones at the event itself like they did last year, but you can start following the action now. Go to Blizzard’s official announcement page for links to the current tournament schedule for each game.
