The Queue: I’d like to be a pirate

Welcome back to The Queue, the Q&A column for all things Blizzard related. If you have a question for the Queue, leave a comment and you may see it answered!

You know I really like the way the Shipyard looks, but I kind of wish you could actually go into the ships and mess around. As it is, you can climb on top of them, but there’s no way to get into the interior that I can see. Unless I’m missing a door that isn’t sealed off. I sort of wish they’d opened them up, added some crew below quests, maybe a few little quests that gave you a reason to be down there. As it stands, it’s kind of like that not-quite-hideous vase that your great aunt gives you, the one you have to stick in the living room because it was a gift and it’d be rude not to, but it doesn’t serve any kind of real purpose beyond being something to stare at.

Sometimes I forget about the visual value of looking up every now and again. And sometimes I forget just how massive the Dark Portal really is in Outland — and that there’s a giant stone dragon head just kind of looming over the edge and keeping a baleful eye on every person that comes trotting through the thing. This is your reminder to turn your camera straight up every once in awhile, whether indoors or out, because sometimes what’s up there is really, really cool. Or creepy. Take your pick!

The Queue: The worst map ever

Either trolls are just really, really bad at cartography, or Lower Blackrock Spire is even more convoluted and confusing to run than you’d expect at first glance. But I do love the dungeon — there’s something about multi-level dungeons where you can stand up high and see mobs way down below that is visually appealing to me, and gives the place a sense of being way more massive than it really is.

The Queue: Every so often I try and be fair to the Horde

Not often, mind you. I generally think that orcs, at best, make some truly awful decisions and trust absolutely the last people you should trust to lead them, and at worst they listen to Gul’dan. The first thing anyone should do upon encountering Gul’dan is to stab him in the stomach several hundred times. The fact that we let him go when we got into Tanaan, that was just… man. I’m positive I should have just started stabbing.

Oh, you’re trapped and they are using you to power the Dark Portal? Well, I can think of a very on point solution to that problem!

Anyway, it’s The Queue. Let’s talk about Blizzard and its games.

Poor sleeping orc peon. He’s had a long day of standing in one spot and making sure only the right people walk through the gate. It’s a hard job, but someone has to do it. You know what isn’t a hard job? Answering questions — so why don’t we just get to the business of doing that?

The Queue: Give it up for the foliage

Can we just take a minute to appreciate this lush tropical jungle, the myriad different types of grasses, the way the sunlight filters through the trees, and all those little shadows spattered all over the scenery? I don’t know who did the environment work this expansion, but every single last one of those people deserves a round of applause and some cookies.

The Queue: Because it is bitter

One of my favorite poems is In the Desert by Stephen Crane. It’s a short poem, so I feel safe reproducing it here.

In the desert
I saw a creature, naked, bestial,
Who, squatting upon the ground,
Held his heart in his hands,
And ate of it.
I said, “Is it good, friend?”
“It is bitter—bitter,” he answered;
“But I like it
“Because it is bitter,
“And because it is my heart.”
Let’s answer some questions.

The Queue: All hail King Fox

Fox VanAllen took his rightful place as the king of the dwarves last Thursday, or he would have if we were raiding Ironforge, and not the Vegas vacation of dwarf citadels. But he insisted on having his screenshot taken on the throne, so I am presenting it here as proof that yes, I did do as requested and take one.

The Queue: He’s right behind me, isn’t he

Man I have absolutely no idea if this pet I picked up on the leveling stream a couple of weeks ago is any good or not. I don’t know if it does amazing DPS, or has some kind of weird ability that makes it a choice pick for any hunter. All I know is I cannot look at the thing without cracking up, which I think is probably as good a reason as any to keep him forever. Good little Brunch. We’re going to have so many adventures together! Let’s get to some questions.
