Heroes of the Storm free hero rotation and sales for July 21
If you’re just getting started with Heroes of the Storm, here’s the deal: Every week there are some heroes you’d usually have to pay for that you can play for free in the free hero rotation, plus a number of heroes and skins on sale in the weekly sale. It’s a great way to try out new heroes without committing to buy, as well as grabbing new heroes, skins, and mounts at bargain prices.
This week isn’t terribly exciting in the free rotation, but freebies Raynor, Muradin, and Uther are all easy to play characters, so they can be good starting points for new players. Also arriving this week is another Diablo hero: Leoric. As with all new heroes, we expect he’ll start at a price of 15,000 gold / $9.99 and drop down to 10,000 gold / $9.99 in two weeks.
So just who is on the agenda this week? Let’s check out this week’s freebies:
- Raynor
- Muradin — check out our guide to Muradin
- Arthas
- Uther — check out our guide to Uther
- Nazeebo
- Jaina (Available after you reach player level 12)
- Kerrigan (Available after you reach player level 15)
I polled our team of Heroes players to get some thoughts on what the rotation means for players this week, and got a fairly lukewarm response:
Alex: Nazeebo doesn’t seem very popular — he didn’t get much play while I was watching ESL over the weekend, anyway — but I find him tons of fun and is the only hero I’ve ever paid money for. Granted, he was on sale and I needed a specialist to complete a daily quest and I didn’t have access to any on the free rotation that week, but hey. Fun. Raynor is boring, boring, boring and I’m tired of him being on the free rotation. Just make him free at this point. In fact, I find Raynor, Muradin, Arthas, and Uther all quite boring. Half of this week is terrible. Half of this week is awesome.
Dan: Raynor, Muradin and Arthas are a bit boring, but good if you just getting into the game. Nazeebo and Kerrigan are a bit more complex, but can be played effectively. Jaina can excel if you remember she’s a glass cannon. Stitches isn’t high on the meta list for tanks so it’s debatable if he’s worth laying out cash for, even at a discount. Since Leoric, a Warrior, is being released tomorrow, it may be a good time to spin up your Support heroes.
If you need a starting point, check out our guides for Muradin and Uther, then move on to our more general assassin guide, specialist guide, support guide, and warrior guide for quick rundowns on each hero.
If you’re in the market for new heroes or skins, here’s what’s on sale this week:
- Stitches — Sale Price: 4.24 USD / 4.19 EUR / 3.19 GBP
- Psycho Stitches Skin — Sale Price: 3.74 USD / 3.69 EUR / 2.70 GBP
- Zerg Hunter Zeratul Skin — Sale Price: 4.99 USD / 4.99 EUR / 3.69 GBP
This week’s freebies and sales should go live on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 PST / 5:30 EST — until then, we’ll see you in the Nexus!
