It's been a while since patch 6.2.2 launched and I'm still on the ground.

The day has finally arrived: we can fly in Draenor.

Yes, today's the day.

I really miss the Netherwing.

The patch notes for World of Warcraft patch 6.2.2 have been updated with plenty of new information -- previously, all we had was a brief summary of the upcoming PVP Mercenary Mode, and flight on Draenor.

This week's earnings call revealed that WoW had dropped to slightly above five million subscribers, a rather precipitous decline from its 10 million subs at the start of Warlords of Draenor. No matter what you say about how that doesn't really mean much (and it doesn't, honestly), it's still a startling drop.

I don't usually do a lot of preparation work going into new patches, other than making sure I've crossed everything off the list that I really wanted from the old patch. For patch 6.2, my priorities have changed a little -- I went to the trouble of putting a Trading Post in my garrison, specifically for the reputation boost.

Yesterday it was announced that yes, we would be able to take to the skies and fly in Draenor after all -- but not without some work on our end. Flying in Draenor will be something we can unlock through obtaining a series of achievements and reputations, rather than paying a giant chunk of change to a vendor.
