I've been thinking a lot about how World of Warcraft essentially has a few alternate game modes as part of its basic retail experience.

The Overwatch team and game director Aaron Keller announced today that Overwatch 2 is moving into the testing phase, with the PVP modes being tested first and the PVE mode will come later.

I think at this point the Horde and Alliance need to exist as separate and somewhat adversarial entities in World of Warcraft.

We have a rumor that there's an Overwatch 2 in the works at Blizzard, although it sounds less like as direct sequel and more like a different kind of game entirely -- according to the rumors, people inside Blizzard have compared it to Left 4 Dead. Based on what I know bout L4D, that makes me wonder if Overwatch 2 is going to be a prequel, since in the Overwatch setting a good alternative to zombie hordes would be, well, robot hordes.

Back in 2009, City of Heroes added the Mission Architect, a feature which let the community design content for players.

According to a report by Kotaku, Blizzard is working on another Overwatch game that will focus on PVE play and will be announced at this year's BlizzCon.
