Heroes of the Storm free hero rotation and sales for September 29

Every week Heroes of the Storm has some heroes you’d usually have to pay for that you can play for free in the free hero rotation, plus a number of heroes and skins on sale in the weekly sale. It’s a great way to try out new heroes without committing to buy, as well as grabbing new heroes, skins, and mounts at bargain prices.

As we’re all looking forward to the introduction of new heroes Lt. Morales and Artanis along with the latest patch, it’s a bit hard to get excited about another round of weekly freebies — but Sgt. Hammer on rotation and Murky on sale this week have piqued our interest, if just a bit.

Now, on to this week’s free heroes:

If you need a starting point, check out our assassin guidespecialist guidesupport guide, and warrior guide for quick rundowns on each hero.

If you’re in the market for new heroes or skins, here’s what’s on sale this week:

Our team had some thoughts on this week’s free lineup:

Anna: Sorry, what was that? I was too busy doodling ‘Mrs Anna Hammer’ all over my notebook. I’m going to recommend that everyone try Hammer this week, not for any gameplay reasons, but because she is feisty as all get-out. Her on-clicks and responses are fantastic… last week, Arthas asked her if she was ready to fight, and she said, ‘nah, I’m sittin in this here siege tank because I’m NOT ready, genius.’

Dan: I’m very much looking forward to playing her again. I’ve seen some interesting strategies by others playing her I want to try. Sgt. Hammer is one of those Specialists that absolutely shines when played correctly. She can take down turrets, opponents and even the enemy’s core from a safe distance. Just make sure you bail quick at the first sign of danger.

Mitch: It should be noted that “bail quick” means “use your Z to escape” because Sgt. Hammer’s “mount” works as a quick, usable-in-combat boost, not a traditional mount.

Anna: Her gameplay and such take a bit of getting used to (like Kenny Rogers says, know when to hold em, fold em or walk away) but her flavor alone makes her a favorite. She really isn’t used on a competitive level… But if I’m playing to have fun, who cares if Cloud9 thinks she sucks?

Mitch: This is probably the rotation I know the least about. Chen isn’t the most played warrior, but he’s not bad either. He takes getting used to but his flying kick thing is incredibly fun to land a kill with. Also, Murky on sale is a huge tease because everyone wants him on free rotation but he hasn’t been in a loooong time.

Anna: Johanna’s still top tier. Valla is still chosen a lot and easy to pick up, too.

Liz: Valla’s always been one of my favorites, probably because I also play a Demon Hunter in Diablo 3.

Dan: Valla is an easy, fun assassin if you watch your positioning, but Falstad’s ability to fly quickly around the map is a huge advantage, especially on maps like Cursed Hollow.

Mitch: Rehgar used to be my favorite support, but has been surpassed by Kharazim. Still, he’s a good support and his wolf chomp makes a fun sound.

Dan: Malfurion is great basic support, but pick Rehgar if you need to knock out a Support daily. His Ancestral Healing heroic can heal an ally almost back to full in the middle of a critical battle.  Chen is unpopular at the moment and is getting some buffs on the current PTR. Johanna may be a more enjoyable pick as it is very hard to kill her.

This week’s freebies and sales should go live on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 PST / 5:30 EST — until then, we’ll see you in the Nexus!
