What was your favorite thing about BlizzCon 2023?
BlizzCon 2023 took place this weekend, and considering that you’re visiting this site and reading this article, you’re most likely well aware. There are a lot of things to enjoy about BlizzCon, and perhaps the most obvious ones are the actual announcements. But some of us also love the very atmosphere of the event, the fan interactions, the surprises, the community contests, the concert — or even the mere fact that a physical BlizzCon took place again after a four-year gap, and we could once again bask in the unparalleled energy that it brings to us fans of Blizzard games.
World of Warcraft fans ate very well, with the surprise announcement of a whopping three WoW expansions at once! We can expect The War Within next year, with Midnight following it, and The Last Titan at some point after that — all part of the Worldsoul Saga. Perhaps the mere fact that we have a framework for where the story is taking us has you very excited.
Or maybe you’re more interested in the actual systems you’ll get to play with Soon™, and what made you really giddy was one of the many features announced for The War Within. Warbands will make alt play easier than ever; Hero Talents add a ton of fantasy and power to your characters; and Delves will give players — especially more casual and open world-focused ones — another legitimate/parallel avenue for play. Or maybe you’re really excited to establish or join a cross-realm guild, or to roll your Earthen character!
Perhaps you’re a WoW Classic player, in which case you’re likely to be super excited about either the announcement of Cataclysm Classic, or about the Season of Discovery, which promises to majorly shake up the Vanilla experience. WoW definitely got a lot this BlizzCon, with something for nearly every kind of player.
But the other Blizzard games weren’t left out! Diablo 4 players got the news of their upcoming first expansion, Vessel of Hatred, which will include a yet-to-be-announced class that is completely new to the franchise. Some of the features for Season 3 were also teased, ensuring that even if the expansion will still take a while, D4 players are still getting new content to make the wait shorter.
Overwatch 2 has a new tank hero, Mauga — who shouldn’t take too long to hit the game — and two others, support hero Venture and a damage hero codenamed “Space Ranger,” to come after that. Hearthstone gets a brand-new game mode with Battlegrounds Duos, as well as new Catch-Up packs that can have up to 50 cards. And the newest addition to the family, Warcraft Rumble, has a new Molten Core raid coming up soon.
Whew! That’s certainly a lot, so it’s time for you to tell us: what was your favorite thing about BlizzCon 2023? Did any of the announcements make you excited, or was there anything else about the return of the convention that you’re really happy about?
