How World of Warcraft could possibly improve PUG experience by stealing an idea from other MMOs

With the release of Endwalker last month I've been playing a lot of Final Fantasy XIV, and one of the activities I've devoted more time to is group content -- not only the FFXIV version of World of Warcraft dungeons called "duties," but also the raid equivalents that are available in 8-player or 24-player varieties.

The Queue: We are on a ship today

Hello and happy 2022, Queue! It’s Thursday, which means it’s not only almost the end of the week, but it’s also my turn to steer this Queue ship through the waves of questions and bring us safely to Port Disqus. Thankfully(?) it won’t be all that bumpy of a ride.

Queue ahoy!

What’s the best tie-in media for a video game?

The subtitle to this post could just be and why is it Arcane because Arcane is one of, if not the, best video game tie-in stories I've ever seen Yes, even better than The Last Guardian, my previous favorite. The Last Guardian is one of the best novels ever set in a game world, which may not be a surprise as it features characters like Medivh and Khadgar and is written by Jeff Grubb, longtime AD&D designer and author of the Azure Bonds tie-in novel, which introduced Dragonbait the Saurial and yes I admit it I loved that book because it made dinosaur people canon in D&D.

The Queue: I like the cut of Jenkin’s jib

Turns out the saying “I like the cut of X person’s jib” is an old nautical reference to sailing days, when you could identify the nationality of a ship by its jib sail. Anyway, I really like this Jenkins kid. He’s really a go getter, wants to make a difference, and he’s a native of Eden Prime, the planet we’re on. I bet he’s going to distinguish himself on this ‘find the beacon’ mission. He seems affable, eager to please, and a real go getter, and displays no awful space racism at all.
