High Elves

Okay, first off, I love the idea of High Elves as an Alliance Allied Race.

In a surprise news post, Blizzard has shared some very exciting new customization options for the Elves of Azeroth -- whether they serve the Alliance or the Horde.

When the headline asks a question, it's extremely tempting to answer the question in the first line of the article.

One of the benefits of Legion and its Artifact system was that it brought a lot of older lore about Azeroth and its universe to life in new ways.

I find the addition of Allied Races to be something of a conundrum.

As if in direct response to a Reddit thread from earlier this week asking for gold or blue eye-color options for Blood Elves, Blizzard has added a golden-eye option (plus three new faces) for both male and female Blood Elves.

Now that Allied Races have arrived on the scene, new alliances have been formed -- although not quite as expected.

For the roots of the divide between the few remaining High Elves and the Blood Elves, we must go back to two figures -- Kael'thas Sunstrider and Garithos, self-proclaimed Grand Marshal of the few remaining Alliance forces in the region after Prince Arthas Menethil's betrayal of his father and his kingdom to the Scourge.

Quel'Thalas today is still recovering from the wounds inflicted by the Third War.
