Overwatch Esports

The restructured Heroes Global Championship competition makes its debut on Friday morning.

It's an exciting week in esports, as the Miami Heat acquired EU organization Misfits, who fields teams for Hearthstone, Overwatch, and Heroes of the Storm.

While there aren't very many events streaming this week, lots of organizations are using this lull right before the new year to announce their plans for 2017.

The year is winding to its close, so the esports we're seeing this weekend are particularly festive.

This week the esports world was mostly dominated by hype for the Intel Extreme Masters tournaments, going on next weekend.

Although we just crowned a whole slew of champions at BlizzCon a few weeks ago, the Blizzard esports action is still going on -- even if Blizzard isn't the one calling the shots in all the tournaments out there.

It was just a few short days of esports, but five world champions were crowned at BlizzCon 2016.

Esports are becoming a bigger and bigger deal for Blizzard.
