The Queue: Spooky Scary Gelatins

We talk a big game about Halloween around here but the fact is Blizzard already created the most creepy zone they ever will in Maldraxxus. The Jellycat is especially beloved, but my god is that thing awful.

This is The Queue, where you ask us questions and we’ll pluck the answers from the air, one by one, much like these hairs springing from warty outgrowths. Brr.

The Queue: T-minus one week

Can you believe it? We’re just one week away from Halloween! Have you handled all of your spooky business? Are your jack o’lanterns hung by the chimney with care?

Somehow it’s snuck up on me once again. I was so sure that I had so much extra time! At this rate, I will have to start thinking about next year’s Halloween in the middle of June! Or just throw a second Halloween in June, like in Gravity Falls! Summerween has some promise, and I can’t believe it hasn’t caught on.

While I write my local elected officials about starting a new major holiday for the summer, it’s time for — The Queue.

The Queue: No rest

I had trouble sleeping last night, so I started writing this very early this morning. Then I crashed and now it’s 5 minutes to publish time and I need to fly — but I am still very tired, to be clear.

Anyhow, from one tired brain to a varying number of other brains in various states of awake:

It’s Queue time.

The Queue: Spooky scary skeleton

As Hallows End fast approaches it’s time to break out a costume for my Druid. This year he’s going as a spooky scary skeleton. He’ll send shivers up your spine! This is not today’s Earworm™ as I already used it many (spooky) moons ago.

I wish that it was as easy in real life to find a costume that both fits you, and is something you really enjoy. That also doesn’t cost a lot. Have you seen the prices at some of the Halloween stores out there?! That’s the real source of shivers up your spine.

While I go back and forth on what to dress up as this year, it’s time for — The Queue.

The Queue: wow, it took me way too long to get the pun in Marvel SNAP

I’ve been playing the card game Snap since I was a kid. I was also passing familiar with Pokémon Snap, but that played on “snapshot” rather than the card game. I assumed Marvel SNAP had gameplay similar to the card game, but also maybe had something in common with the Pokémon version, particularly the “catch em all” motif associated with TCGs. I’m not sure exactly when it hit me that the annoying all-caps brand styling emphasizing SNAP was depicted as cracked and disintegrating, a la the infamous Thanos Snap in the MCU, but man did I feel kinda stupid that it was more recent than it should’ve been.

This is The Queue, where you ask us questions and we’re probably on the ball enough to know the answer. Maybe.

The Queue: Matthew walked in the door, unaware that the music had become driving and relentless

One of the things about playing video games is, they often have soundtracks. Sometimes, I really wish I had something like a soundtrack in my day to day life. just so I’d know when I was about to enter a boss encounter or what have you. Like, I’d be pushing along a cart at the local Superstore and then suddenly a bunch of singers started doing that faux-Latin and the drums pick up so yeah, I’d be ready for werewolves.

Not that I’ve seen werewolves at the Superstore yet. But I’d like to be warned if it ever happens.

The Queue: When you’ve made it, won’t you tell me what to do?

I make playlists on YouTube sometimes. Sometimes they have videos about a character from Destiny 2 set to the song I want to listen to and so I learn that said character is dead, so I then end up on a Wiki dive to figure out who they were and why they died.

Anyway, yeah, Cayde-6 seems like he was kind of cool. I never played much Destiny 2 so I don’t really get the full impact. Still, it’s a pretty good death sequence, and Nolan North does a good job stepping into a character for his goodbye.

I sometimes fear that I’ll wake up and Nolan North will be doing my voice because that will almost certainly mean that I’m about to die cinematically.
