What do you do when the waiting is the hardest part?
Next week is replete with expansions, with Tuesday seeing the release of Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker (those who purchase early access can start playing this Friday), Everquest taking us back to Luclin, and Hearthstone visiting Alterac Valley.
How do you game through holiday madness?
I think we all experience at least a touch of overload every December.
What real-life fun facts have you learned as a result of playing video games?
When developers make a video game, they do research.
What do you most enjoy about the games you play?
I mean, straight up, transmog has made me love so, so many games — from World of Warcraft to Assassin's Creed Odyssey I enjoy playing dress up with my little POV character almost as much as getting a compelling story or satisfying gameplay loops.
What do you do for gaming over Thanksgiving?
Look, families are great, sometimes.
Why is Diablo such an enduring game series?
There are a lot of RPG's and action RPG's out there, and yet, the Diablo franchise has managed to exist for over 20 years now, and the relatively simple formula for the series has not just survived, it's thrived, to the point where it's even seen a phalanx of imitators and spiritual successors like the Torchlight games, the Path of Exile series, Grim Dawn, Wolcen, Darksiders Genesis, Warhammer Chaosbane, and a whole lot more.
What else should be account wide in World of Warcraft?
Shadowlands patch 9.1.5 is very alt-friendly, especially in terms of making unlocks account wide. Armor upgrade items from Archivist's Codex can be purchased by all characters once one reaches Tier 6 reputation, and the Covenant armor appearances, mounts, and toys can be used by all characters after a character reaches Renown 80 with the Covenant.
How should an MMO celebrate its own anniversary? What cool things should players be able to do and earn?
The 17th anniversary event for World of Warcraft is currently underway and will continue to be so until early December.
How much does datamining affect your enjoyment of a game?
We're in the middle of datamining season for patch 9.2 and I frankly find it a bit oppressive sometimes.
How important is the system you use in your TTRPG experience?
In tabletop role playing, a system is the codified rule set used to represent the world and the player's experiences of it. Dungeons and Dragons uses a system based around a d20 dice roll, with modifiers that change the possible spread of numbers you can successfully roll, and other dice to represent things like the damage dealt to characters or monsters in the game's combat system.
